We would like to use this space to address some of the feedback received so far.
1. How does the Deep Oil Cleanser work? It seems odd to try cleaning my already oily face with oil!!
When cleansing and moisturizing your skin, it is imperative that you keep in mind that oil disolves oil. Do not be afraid of applying oil to your face. Oil, alone, will not cause blemishes. Pimples, cysts, zits, blackheads and whiteheads are a result of several different factors including hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells and the buildup of these factors. Your skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. It is not a malicious force to be reckoned with, it is there for the benefit of your skin. It is naturally occurring. Oil helps lubricate, heal, protect, and moisturize your skin so that it may function properly. Properly functioning skin is beautiful, clear, and glowing.
So, people who try this method of cleansing will immediately notice how "un-oily" their faces feel!! Yet, it doesn't leave your face feeling "tight" the way soap does. After cleansing, tone and moisturise as you would normally (or if you don't - then don't!). If you have matured skin, this might actually have a drying effect on your face, so either finish up by rubbing in another tiny drop of the oil into your face, or moisturise as usual.
After much research, we have found out that this isn't a new thing at all. Many people around the world have been using Baby Oil to clean their faces! At Periwinkle, we do not use Baby Oil which is mineral oil, but super vegetable/plant oils which have additional natural goodies like antioxidants, etc. To read more about our stand on mineral oil, please read the FAQs. Why is this method better than regular cleansers or soap? Firstly, because cleansers and soaps wash off not only the oil on your face, but the water, too! That is why you feel that "tightness" in your face. When your face has been stripped of its natural moisture, it will send signals to your brain to produce MORE oil. Hence, if you do not moisturise right after soaping, you will notice that your face will get even oilier over the next couple of hours. This is because your skin is trying to correct the imbalance.
The next best thing to the Oil Cleansing Method are those cream cleansers that they sell in the market. These products actually use the oil in the cream to clean your face. Therefore, to avoid over-production of oil on your face, you should not use gel cleansers or soap cleansers all the time.
Last but not least, other huge cosmetic companies are also selling Oil Cleansers, for example, Shu-Uemura. Shu-Uemura is selling oil cleansers made up of mineral oil for about USD$60.
2. Your packaging is very plain. It would be more appealing if you could use colourful jars, bottles and labels instead of plain white and black!
For the new year, we have brought in new 4oz amber bottles and new 4oz ultra-marine blue jars from USA. Other containers remain the same as we try very hard to keep our prices reasonable.
